What’s Free Comic Book Day, you ask? It’s pretty self explanatory. If you still don’t get it, every year on the first saturday of May, participating comic book stores will be handing out free comics to anyone who visits. No, it’s not what you think. The comics that are free are distributed to them as free, they are not the ones that have either a $2.99 or a $3.99 price tag. So don’t get the idea that just grabbing any title off their shelf is cool, that’s not how it works. You go to your LCS or LCSs, usually, one comic book store only offers 3 to 4 of the free comic books. What you do is visit every comic book store in your area. Now, most of the comic book stores that participate in Free Comic Book Day have huge, I mean massive, sales so that the people that come in can buy some comics for themselves. You see, even though they’re handing out these free comic books, the retailers/comic book stores buy these from the distributors. They’re buying them for a price so that you guys get them for free and you can enjoy them. Show some love to your local comic shop, at least buy something from their store on Free Comic Book Day.

Months before Free Comic Book Day, they’ll be posting the list of comic books that re going to be given out. There will be a lot of publishers that will be participating next year’s event. We’ve got the two powerhouses, Marve and DC. Next in line are Image Comics, Dark Horse, and IDW. Behind those will the small press books like Archaia, Bongo Simpsons Comics, Archie Comics, Avatar Press, Boom Studios, and MAD Engine.
